CANADIAN ASSEMBLY - A EUCHARISTIC FEAST!!!

The Canadian Provincial Assembly 2006 was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from August 7-12. Several RSCJ from other provinces joined us for the gathering that included rich input, festive celebrations, creative reports and imaginative visioning as we step into the future together.

On the first evening of the Assembly, Sheila Smith transferred her perpetual vows to the Society of the Sacred Heart. It was a time of deep joy for the Province and an occasion for all of us to savour anew the radical love and faithfulness of God in the bread of our lives.

For the following two days, Bishop Gerry Wiesner, OMI from the diocese of Prince George, British Columbia fed us with rich food for thought and reflection on the theme of "Eucharist". The diverse and profound sharing that this input facilitated among us was received and held by all as sacred gift.

On August 9, Anne-Marie Conn, and her team transferred the leadership of the Province to our new Provincial, Mary Finlayson, and her team. The new team members are Sally Mahar and Theresa Chu. The offertory procession during the liturgy included a prayerful, expressive dance during which we offered together, with joy and gratitude, the gift of our diverse calls to love and serve during the different seasons of our lives.

Nourished and strengthened by each other and by the richness of our days together, we go forward with hope to be Eucharist in our broken and blessed, emerging world.
